A special drive was launched in Uttar Pradesh’s Ghaziabad on Saturday to stop the entry of two-wheelers on the Delhi- Meerut Expressway (DME). ACP Traffic Ramanand Kushwaha landed with his entire team. During this campaign which lasted for about three hours, challans were issued to 473 two-wheeler drivers who were speeding at 8 checking points.
Challans worth Rs 94.6 lakh were deducted in this campaign on Saturday. All the challans were of no entry, the challan on no entry is of 20 thousand rupees. ACP Traffic said that there is a high possibility of accidents due to the arrival of two wheelers on DME, so the entry of two wheelers on DME has been closed, despite this two wheelers are continuously running on DME. To stop this, such campaigns will be run continuously.
The entry of two wheelers and three wheelers on the DME is strictly prohibited, yet such vehicle drivers bypass the ban and ply on the DME. Traveling on DME takes only 5 to 10 minutes to reach their destination, but two wheeler drivers risk their lives to save this much time. To prevent this, sign boards have also been put up on the DME, but two-wheeler drivers ignore them.
The maximum speed on the DME is fixed at 100 km per hour and there is also a challan of Rs 20,000 on the two-wheeler entry, but due to lack of proper monitoring system, the two-wheeler drivers on the DME are continuously speeding. During the campaign, Assistant Commissioner of Police Traffic, Traffic Inspector first, second, third and fourth officers were also present.
Checking done at eight entry points
On Saturday, ACP Traffic along with his team made a check post naka at 8 points with easy entry on DME. These include Exit Point in front of Media House, Exit Point in front of Gaur Green, Vijayanagar Site Entry Point in front of ABES, Entry Point in front of IMS College, Toll Plaza in front of Vedanta Farmhouse, Toll Plaza in front of Daya Steel Agency, Eastern Peripheral towards Palwal. Wale Exit Point, Eastern PeripheralChecking was done at the exit point coming from Kundli.The ACP said that a checking operation was carried out on the DME for about three hours. During this, challans were issued to 473 two-wheeler drivers.
