The government has granted approval for the commercial use of roofs in five bus terminals across Ghaziabad, Uttar Pradesh. The initiative aims to open hotels, restaurants, canteens, and various shops on the terminal roofs to cater to long-distance travelers. The decision was made after a review meeting held by the Uttar Pradesh Transport Corporation on December 18, where Finance and Parliamentary Affairs Minister Suresh Khanna sanctioned the plan.

Revamping 5 Bus Terminals to House Hotels, Restaurants, and Shops

The project is part of the corporation’s strategy to enhance revenue generation by transforming bus terminals into commercial spaces. The five bus terminals chosen for this project are located in Loni, Bulandshahr, Khurja, Hapur, and Sikandrabad. Before commencing construction, all terminal buildings will undergo scrutiny by the Public Works Department (PWD) to ensure structural integrity.

Ram Raja, Executive Engineer at PWD, emphasized the importance of strengthening the foundations of these buildings before any construction on the roofs. The roofs will be repurposed for commercial activities, boosting the corporation’s income. A detailed survey is set to precede the development, covering all aspects of structural stability. The initiative spans across 76 bus terminals throughout the state, with Ghaziabad being a prominent hub due to its proximity to Delhi-NCR and the influx of commuters for work and festive occasions.
