Bahraich Encounter: The Bahraich encounter has sparked significant outrage among opposition leaders in Uttar Pradesh. Notably, Congress MP Imran Masood and Samajwadi Party leader Akhilesh Yadav are among those expressing deep concerns over the UP government’s handling of recent violence in the area. They believe that the actions taken by the government are insufficient and politically motivated. Moreover, Imran Masood emphasized the need for justice for all involved, stating that riots should not be linked to any religion. He insisted that accountability must be upheld for those responsible for the violence. Earlier in the day, the UP Police arrested five individuals in connection with the Bahraich violence. Two of these accused were shot in the leg during the encounter with police.
Imran Masood’s Stance on Bahraich Encounter
Congress MP Imran Masood, representing Saharanpur, spoke to ANI about the Bahraich encounter. He highlighted the importance of punishing all rioters. He stated, “The rioters who burned shops should also be punished. Rioters have no religion. Those who burned an entire market and misbehaved with women should also be treated accordingly.” His comments underscore a call for fairness and justice in addressing the violence that erupted in Bahraich.
Akhilesh Yadav Critiques UP Government’s Handling
In addition, Samajwadi Party President Akhilesh Yadav criticized the UP government’s approach to law enforcement, referring to the encounter as an administrative failure. He stated, “This incident was an administrative failure. The government is doing encounters to cover up their failure. If encounters had been improving the law and order of the state, UP would have been way ahead of most states.” Furthermore, Yadav questioned why a previously permitted procession could not be conducted peacefully, urging the government to take responsibility for maintaining order in the state.
Ajay Rai’s Concerns over Fake Encounters
UP Congress President Ajay Rai voiced his concerns regarding the government’s track record. He accused them of conducting fake encounters. Rai stated, “The government has been doing fake encounters since ever. They are just trying to cover up their failure.” Thus, Rai’s comments reflect a broader concern about accountability and transparency in police operations.
Avinash Pandey’s Call for Restoration of Normalcy
Congress leader Avinash Pandey also weighed in on the situation, describing the incidents in Bahraich as unfortunate. He asserted, “What is happening in Bahraich is unfortunate, and it is the responsibility of the administration to restore normalcy.”
Police Response and Justification
SP Bahraich, Vrinda Shukla, provided insight into the police’s response during the incident. She explained that police fired in self-defense, resulting in injuries to the two suspects. “When the police team went to the Nanpara area to recover the murder weapon, Md. Sarfaraz alias Rinku and Md. Talib alias Sablu had the weapon in a loaded state, which they used to fire at the police. In self-defense, the police retaliated, injuring the two. They are undergoing treatment,” she noted. Additionally, Shukla reassured the public that all five arrested individuals would face strict legal action.
