Samajwadi Party has declared Dimple Yadav as its candidate from Mainpuri Lok Sabha seat. Dimple Yadav is the wife of SP President Akhilesh Yadav. The seat fell vacant after the death of SP Patron Mulayam Singh Yadav. The Election Commission has announced to hold by-polls to this seat on December 5. Dimple Yadav has also been an MP from Kannoj Lok Sabha seat. Everyone’s eyes were on who SP makes its candidate in the by-election of this Lok Sabha seat, which is a stronghold of the Yadav family. To contest this seat, BJP can field a strong candidate from its side.
There is political speculation that BJP may field its candidate from backward caste in this seat. This seat, a SP stronghold, has the largest number of Yadav voters. In the 2019 Lok Sabha elections, BJP had contested Prem Singh Shakya against Mulayam Singh Yadav. Mulayam Singh got 5.24 lakh votes in this election, while 4.30 lakh votes went to Shakya’s account. The nomination process for this seat has started from today.
The last date for nomination for this seat is November 17 while candidates can withdraw their names till November 21. Voting will be held on December 5 and the result will be announced on December 8. The results of Himachal and Gujarat elections will also be declared on the same day.
On December 5, apart from by-elections on Mainpuri Lok Sabha seat, voting will also be held in Rampur and Khatauli assembly seats. Khatauli seat fell vacant due to the loss of membership of BJP MLA Vikram Singh Saini. Whereas Azam Khan was sentenced to three years imprisonment in Rampur seat. By-elections will also be held in these two seats of the assembly.
