The case of death of children in the children’s home of Uttar Pradesh’s capital Lucknow has raised questions. The district administration has taken seriously the death of four girls in five days in the Government Children’s Home located at Prag Narayan Road, Lucknow. Its superintendent has been suspended. A magisterial inquiry has also been ordered. The district administration has categorically rejected the death of these children due to cold and said that the correct information about the cause of death will be known from the postmortem report. In this regard, Women Welfare, Child Development and Nutrition Minister Baby Rani Maurya said that these four girls were suffering from underweight, stiffness, diarrhea, fever and thalassemia. He was being treated in various hospitals. The minister has also said that the death of these girls due to cold is completely wrong and misleading
75 children in seven rooms
75 children have been kept in seven rooms of the Government Children’s Home (Shishu). Of these, 35 children in the age group of one month to two years have been kept in a single room. In view of this, the officials have given instructions to increase the number of rooms for distance maintenance in children up to two years of age. Officials claim that 58 child care workers have been deployed. Along with this, pediatricians are also keeping an eye on the health of all the children kept in the children’s home.
Special child fighting the battle of life
Two-month-old was brought to a children’s home after being found abandoned in Unnao. Special Child Moon admitted in Civil Hospital is also fighting the battle of life and death. According to doctors, the child is suffering from red blood cell apalgia and thumb psychopinia. In this, the formation of bone marrow stops along with the breakdown of blood cells of the child.
Like the government children’s home located at Prag Narayan Road in Hazratganj, there are no special arrangements for the care of children in other children’s homes of the city. Shilpi Saxena, Adoption Officer of Lilavati Munshi Destitute Children’s Home, Moti Nagar, told that children are checked up when medical camps are held. Apart from this, he is taken to a government hospital when his health deteriorates. However, there is no arrangement for routine checkup. However, along with adequate arrangements for drinking water, the cleanliness and security arrangements are also sound. CCTV cameras are also installed in every room to monitor the children.
