Gautam Budh Nagar District Shuts Coaching Institutes for Non-Compliance with Registration Requirements

Following a review of registration records mandated by the UP Coaching Regulation Act, the Gautam Budh Nagar District Inspector of Schools (DIOS) has issued immediate closure orders for coaching institutes that failed to present necessary paperwork. The education department initiated this scrutiny in March, with letters sent to 54 coaching institutions in Noida and Greater Noida. Despite notices and warnings, only 20 responded. DIOS Dharamveer Singh highlighted the importance of student safety and emphasized that proper registration with the district administration is a prerequisite for running coaching institutes.

Safety Concerns Prompt Stringent Measures

The move comes months after the government issued notices for coaching centers to register under the Act. A survey conducted by 12 teams on November 9 revealed non-compliance among several institutes. In response, DIOS Singh emphasized the matter’s critical nature and underscored the obligation for coaching facilities to adhere to registration regulations. Safety concerns have heightened since a coaching facility in Delhi experienced a fire on June 15, leading to injuries and subsequently making registration under the UP Coaching Regulation Act mandatory.

Financial Implications and Student Refunds

DIOS provided insight into the financial implications, noting that coaching facilities with fewer than 50 students face a Rs 10,000 registration fee, while those with more than 50 students must pay Rs 25,000. With some institutes having over 200 registered students, officials have urged establishment owners to refund students’ advance fees, although no official directive has been issued as yet. The crackdown on non-compliance signals a proactive approach to enhance safety and regulatory adherence in coaching institutes within the district.
