Ghaziabad News: A group of fraudsters, including a woman, have reportedly conned around 40 individuals out of over ₹1 crore by impersonating employees of the Municipal Corporation. Their elaborate scheme involved enticing victims with the promise of affordable housing and secure government jobs.In response to the victims’ complaints, the Nandgram police station has registered a report. However, the accused parties are currently on the run, and law enforcement agencies are actively seeking their apprehension.
False Promises
The fraudsters, identified as Pawan Upadhyay, his wife Priya (also known as Preeti Upadhyay), and Chandan Sarkar, masqueraded as Municipal Corporation workers. They maintained a pretense of frequenting the Municipal Corporation premises to further solidify their deceptive identities.
According to Mohammad Akbar of Nandgram, the fraudsters duped individuals into paying ₹5 lakh for securing a job within the Municipal Corporation. Additionally, they coaxed victims into contributing ₹3 lakh for housing, allegedly under the Pradhan Mantri Awas Yojana. The accused provided fake allotment letters and joining letters, even going so far as to accompany victims to the Municipal Corporation office and helping them complete forms and medical examinations. However, these documents ultimately turned out to be fabricated, leaving victims disillusioned.
Escalating Investigation
Around 40 victims from Ghaziabad, Noida, and Delhi have surfaced thus far, with the police collecting relevant documents and initiating an investigation. Authorities have also reached out to the Municipal Corporation to verify the authenticity of the accused’s employment claims. Further action will be taken as the inquiry progresses.
Victims who fell prey to the scheme include individuals like Ajay Kumar, Veer Singh, Bhola Shankar, Mamta Thakur, Bimla Devi, Aarti Maurya, Gotiram, Rinki, Pankaj Wadhwani, Aman Burman, Vijay Maurya, Yashwant Rao, Krishna Kumar, and others. Many were deceived in connection with the Pradhan Mantri Awas Yojana, while others were lured with the promise of job placements within the Municipal Corporation, only to be cheated in the end.
