Ghaziabad News: Ghaziabad Mayor Announces No Increase in House Tax Rates, Citing Recent Revision

Karnataka Housing Scheme

Ghaziabad News: Mayor Sunita Dayal of Ghaziabad declared on Wednesday that there would be no hike in house tax rates, and the existing rates would persist. This decision follows a proposal by the Ghaziabad Municipal Corporation (GMC) to align house tax rates with the DM circle rate, inviting suggestions in this regard.

Ghaziabad Mayor Announces No Increase in House Tax Rates

The circle rate, determined by the width of roads in the area, serves as the basis for calculating property taxes. Currently, house tax rates range from Rs 1.61 per sq ft to 2.45 per sq ft. In contrast, the proposed rates were set at a maximum of Rs 4 per sq ft, potentially resulting in higher taxes for properties near national highways.

House tax had already been revised

Mayor Dayal emphasized that house tax had already been revised in the current financial year, and further increases would not be appropriate. She stated, “In the interest of the people of the city, instructions have been given not to increase house tax.” Dayal highlighted that such increments had occurred in the past and were subject to regulations that prevent further increases at this time.

While the proposal originated from the state government, Mayor Dayal clarified that its implementation would be deferred. The matter is set to be discussed with all councilors in the GMC board. Dayal expressed concerns about the significant impact of the proposed changes and indicated a willingness to escalate the matter to the government level if necessary.
