Ghaziabad News: The Ghaziabad Development Authority (GDA) and the municipal corporation have been asked by the Uttar Pradesh government to resolve their issues and complete transferring seven colonies to the civic body within two months.
The seven colonies—Indrapuram, Indraprastha, Swarn Jayantipuram, Koyal Enclave, Madhuban Bapudham, Indrakunj, and Tulsi Niketan—that must be turned over to the municipal corporation are as follows. The principal secretary of the housing and urban planning department, Nitin Gokarn, gave the order to finish the handover procedure.
Municipal corporation and authority have conducted their surveys:
“The handover of these colonies from the GDA has been in the works for long. Both the development authority and the municipal corporation have conducted their surveys, but they are yet to reach a consensus on the terms and conditions. Now that the state government has given them a deadline, both must sort the issue out at the earliest,” a GDA official said.
The issue first surfaced in 2016, when Makanpur was the lone ward in Indirapuram. That year, however, a delimitation resulted in its division into seven wards. These wards were divided, however the corporation never received these wards.
The civic body has not given any funding for these wards in the absence of a transfer. The lack of funding has hindered development activities, as council members have repeatedly noted.
Upon agreeing to take over the townships, the corporation asked the GDA to either finish the development work in these areas or pay the municipal body for the cost of doing so. Following extensive discussion, the sum was reduced to Rs 288 crore.
GDA is responsible for developing colonies:
“Look, we are a service provider while GDA is responsible for developing colonies and handing them over to us after ensuring all the basic amenities have been taken care of. In these seven townships, work still needs to be carried out on roads, drains and supply of drinking water. If we take these colonies over in such shape, it will put undue strain on our coffers. As a matter of principle, GDA should either complete the pending work or give us the money required for it. We will do the work on their behalf,” corporation official mentioned.
The officials of two agencies said, will conduct the meetings in coming days. “We have to reach a consensus now that the government has come up with an order,” the corporation official said.
