Ghaziabad News: Ghaziabad’s iconic elevated road has now been officially renamed as “Shri Ram Setu.” This decision was unanimously passed during a meeting of the Ghaziabad Municipal Corporation, marking a new chapter for the city’s infrastructure.
Why “Shri Ram Setu”?
The idea to change the name of the elevated road to “Shri Ram Setu” was led by Mayor Sunita Dayal and got strong support from the council members. This decision came after many discussions and suggestions from the public about giving a better name to the important road.
From Vision to Reality
Conceptualised in 2014 by the Ghaziabad Development Authority (GDA), the elevated road materialized as a six-lane highway spanning 10.3 kilometers, connecting UP Gate to Rajnagar Extension. Construction commenced in November 2014, culminating in a project valued at Rs 1147.60 crore. Today, it serves as a vital artery for Ghaziabad’s transportation network, streamlining traffic flow and connecting key areas.
Recent Updates
Last month, it was revealed that slow-moving vehicles such as autos, e-rickshaws, tractors, and trolleys are now prohibited from plying on a 10.3-kilometer stretch of the Hindon elevated road. The Ghaziabad traffic police announced that violating this rule will result in a hefty fine of ₹20,000. This new regulation came into effect from January 10, aiming to streamline traffic flow and ensure safety on the elevated road.
