Ghaziabad RapidX Launch: Today, Prime Minister Narendra Modi is set to inaugurate the country’s first semi-high-speed regional rail service, previously known as RapidX but renamed ‘Namo Bharat.’ This project is a collaborative effort between the central government and the states of Delhi, Haryana, Rajasthan, and Uttar Pradesh, overseen by the National Capital Region Transport Corporation (NCRTC). The Regional Rapid Transit System (RRTS) Corridor, designed for ‘Namo Bharat,’ is under construction with a target completion date of 2025.

Key features of Ghaziabad RapidX

The key feature of this initiative is the Delhi-Ghaziabad-Meerut RRTS, a groundbreaking regional connectivity project covering 100 km in just one hour. The initial segment, running from Sahibabad to the Duhai depot, will open for passengers on October 21, following its inauguration.

Stations on the Sahibabad to Duhai Depot corridor include Sahibabad, Ghaziabad, Guldhar, Duhai, and Duhai Depot.

The trains are equipped with modern amenities, including six CCTVs in each coach, an emergency door-opening system, and a communication button for contacting the train operator. Passengers will find overhead luggage racks, Wi-Fi, and mobile and laptop charging outlets at every seat. Additionally, there will be a train attendant available in the premium coach, but they can assist passengers in other coaches as well. All RRTS stations feature platform screen doors (PSDs) integrated with the signaling system.

Fare module for the Sahibabad to Duhai Depot corridor

The fare module for the Sahibabad to Duhai Depot corridor varies based on coach type. The premium coach has a minimum fare of Rs 40 and a maximum of Rs 100. Standard coaches on the priority section will offer a minimum fare of Rs 20 and a maximum of Rs 50. Fare pricing is determined by the distance or number of stations covered.

Commuters have flexible ticketing options, including QR code-based one-time tickets and card-based transit options for their journeys. QR code-based tickets can be obtained from ticket vending machines (TVMs) or ticket counters, with TVMs supporting UPI payments.

Average speed:

The ‘Namo Bharat’ trains are set to achieve an average speed of 100 kmph, surpassing both metro trains and Indian Railways passenger trains. These train sets are manufactured by Alstom in Gujarat.
