Ghaziabad News: Hurray! GDA to Handover Indirapuram to GNN, Check Benefits

As part of the agreement, GDA will pay ₹185 crore to the municipal corporation for the upgrade of civic infrastructure, according to officials.

Ghaziabad News: After nearly two decades of delay, the Ghaziabad Development Authority (GDA) is finally set to hand over the Indirapuram township to the Ghaziabad Municipal Corporation. A memorandum of understanding (MoU) was signed between the two agencies in the presence of the Meerut divisional commissioner on Friday. As part of the agreement, GDA will pay ₹185 crore to the municipal corporation for the upgrade of civic infrastructure, according to officials.

The transition will be phased over the next three to six months, during which key facilities like sewage, solid waste management, drainage, streetlights, roads, and horticulture will be handed over. Once completed, the municipal corporation will take full responsibility for managing these civic services.

Changes in Taxation for Indirapuram Residents

Currently, the municipal corporation only collects the house tax component of property tax from Indirapuram’s 52,572 households, amounting to around ₹30 crore annually. Other services are provided by GDA in exchange for a service charge. Following the handover, the municipal corporation will also begin collecting water tax and sewage/drainage tax, increasing property tax revenue by an estimated ₹35 crore per year.

Funding for Civic Infrastructure Upgrade

To facilitate the upgrade of civic infrastructure in Indirapuram, GDA has committed to paying ₹185 crore to the municipal corporation in four instalments. The first instalment, amounting to ₹70 crore, will be transferred within the next 10 days, marking the official date of the handover.

The handover of Indirapuram to Ghaziabad Nagar Nigam (municipal corporation) is expected to bring several key benefits to residents:

Unified Governance: With the municipal corporation managing all civic services, there will be a more streamlined and unified approach to addressing the needs of Indirapuram. This will likely lead to faster response times for maintenance issues and better coordination of public services.

Improved Infrastructure: The ₹185 crore fund from GDA for infrastructure upgrades will be instrumental in enhancing the quality of roads, drainage systems, street lighting, and other essential services. This will improve the overall living conditions in the township.

Comprehensive Civic Services: Once the handover is complete, residents can expect more efficient garbage collection, sewage management, and water supply, as the Nagar Nigam will be solely responsible for these services. This is anticipated to lead to better service delivery and improved hygiene standards in the area.

Increased Transparency and Accountability: With a single authority responsible for all services, there will be greater transparency and accountability in the administration. Residents will have a clearer channel for raising concerns and ensuring their issues are addressed.
