Ghaziabad News: Municipal Corporation’s ₹6 Crore Project; Integrating CCTV Cameras for Enhanced Traffic Management and Surveillance

Ghaziabad News

Ghaziabad News: Senior civic officials stated that the ₹6 crore project is being carried out by the Ghaziabad Municipal Corporation to integrate the approximately 1500 CCTV cameras in the city with the intelligent traffic management system (ITMS). The project’s goal is to improve monitoring and surveillance for better traffic management, to aid in crime prevention, and to support case investigations.

“There are about 1,500 cameras installed across the city but they are in isolation and require integration for centralised monitoring. We asked the police to identify the location of these cameras and now we will integrate them. The tenders for the project have been floated and it is likely that the work will start by next month,” said municipal commissioner, Vikramaditya Singh Malik.

More details:

About seven or eight years ago, the cameras were placed across the city, but due to poor integration and upkeep, many of them have now been discontinued.

According to Malik, the state administration has approved the integration of these cameras with the integrated traffic management system (ITMS).

The city’s first ITMS project, which would be implemented at a cost of roughly ₹85.75 crore, was also approved by the state government in September. The ITMS project involves the integration of multiple systems to optimise traffic management, such as red light violation detection, traffic control, traffic enforcement, no-helmet detection, and triple-riding detection.

The State Smart City Mission will finance the ITMS initiative by awarding grants totaling ₹250 crore over five years to a number of chosen cities, including Ghaziabad.

ITMS entails installing equipment at 41 specific points throughout city:

According to city officials, the ITMS entails installing equipment at 41 specific points throughout the city. CISF Road in Indirapuram, UP-Gate, Kala Patthar in Indirapuram, Raj Nagar Extension, SRS Cinema intersection in Indirapuram, Ghookhna on Delhi-Meerut Road, near the air force station at Hindon, Siddharth Vihar, Vivekanand Nagar, Saur Urja Marg in Sahibabad, and near Sahibabad railway station are a few of the significant intersections that will be included in the plan.

“The state government has approved about ₹22 crore for the ITMS project and we are going to float tenders for the work within a week. Once the ITMS gets functional, the camera feed will be monitored from a centralised control room. These 1,500 CCTV cameras will also be integrated with the ITMS control room for better monitoring and surveillance,” Malik said.
