The National Highways Authority of India (NHAI) has launched a project to revamp the entry/exit on the Delhi-Meerut Expressway (DME) near Ghaziabad’s Crossings Republik township. The initiative aims to streamline traffic flow between the DME and National Highway 9 (NH9).
Traffic Challenges Addressed
Currently, the entry/exit point near Crossings Republik poses traffic challenges as vehicles often drive on the wrong side of NH9 to access the expressway. This creates hindrances for both expressway and NH9 traffic.
Project Details and Shifted Entry/Exit Points
As per the proposed plan, the entry/exit point will be relocated 500 meters towards Lal Kuan. Additionally, a new entry point on the Ghaziabad to Delhi-lane from NH9 to DME will be constructed 300 meters after the Crossings Republik township, benefiting commuters from Crossings Republik and Greater Noida West.
Benefits for Commuters
The restructuring project, estimated at ₹9.5 crore, aims to end the practice of driving on the wrong side. The initiative will facilitate a smoother merge of traffic from Crossings Republik and NH9 with the expressway lanes.
Notable Traffic Flow and Project Cost
The DME and NH9 stretch in Ghaziabad witnesses a daily traffic flow of around three lakh passenger car units. The officials estimate the project cost to be approximately ₹9.5 crore, emphasizing the need for enhanced traffic management.
Inauguration by Ghaziabad MP Gen VK Singh
Ghaziabad MP Gen VK Singh (retd.), who is also the Minister of State for Road Transport & Highways and Civil Aviation, flagged off the project’s commencement. He highlighted that the improved entry/exits will facilitate easy movement to the main carriageway of DME without causing disruptions to traffic.
