Traffic Advisory Issued in Ghaziabad for Kanwar Yatra 2024: Key Routes and Diversion Plans Explained

Ghaziabad News: With the sacred month of Sawan starting on July 22, 2024, multiple areas in Delhi, Noida, Ghaziabad and Uttarakhand are on high alert due to the Kanwar Yatra. This month holds great significance in Hinduism. During this time, devotees, known as Kanwariyas, walk to Haridwar to collect holy water from the Ganga river and offer it to Lord Shiva on the occasion of Shivratri. To ensure a smooth journey for the devotees, the Ghaziabad traffic police have issued an advisory, including restrictions on heavy vehicles starting from midnight on July 21.

Traffic Diversions for Heavy Vehicles

The Ghaziabad police have announced traffic diversions for heavy vehicles on their social media platform, X.

On National Highway 34 (formerly NH-58), traffic towards Meerut from Mohan Nagar, Meerut T-point, Raj Nagar Extension, and Hapur Chungi will be allowed only on a single lane. From July 29, all vehicular movement on this route will be completely restricted.

Vehicles coming from Palwal Kundli via the Eastern Peripheral Expressway will not be allowed to enter Ghaziabad city, Muradnagar and Modinagar from the Duhai intersection starting July 29. Instead, these vehicles will use the Dasna intersection and then proceed to their destination via National Highway 09.

Traffic between Delhi and Meerut on the Delhi-Meerut Expressway will be entirely prohibited from July 29 onwards. Vehicles can use National Highway 9 through Hapur to reach their destinations.

Vehicular movement from Meerut T-point towards Hindon Riverside, Kanawani, and Indirapuram will be entirely restricted. Instead, vehicles will have to proceed to their destinations via the old bus stand, Chaudhary Morh and Vijay Nagar Railway Over Bridge to NH-9.

Commencement of the Sacred Sawan Month from July 22

The holy month of Sawan begins on July 22, which also marks the first Monday of the month. According to Hindu beliefs, this month is highly auspicious. During this time, Kanwariyas from various locations travel by foot, vehicles and other means to Haridwar. They collect holy water from the Ganga river and offer it to Lord Shiva upon returning.
