Several districts in Uttar Pradesh, particularly those in proximity to Delhi, continue to grapple with poor air quality, leading to growing concerns about the health of the local population. Elderly individuals and children appear to be the most affected by the deteriorating air quality, with the onset of cold weather exacerbating the situation.
Air Quality Declines
Even on Saturday, the air quality index (AQI) in Noida and Ghaziabad remained in the “poor” category. In Delhi, the overall air quality was rated as “poor” with an AQI of 286, while Noida recorded an AQI of 255, also in the “poor” category. Ghaziabad, Uttar Pradesh, witnessed some of the worst conditions, with Loni recording an AQI of 379, classifying as “very poor” according to the National Air Quality Index.
Worsening Conditions in Adjacent Areas
Greater Noida, an adjacent area, witnessed “very poor” air quality with an AQI of 350. The air quality in Meerut is gradually deteriorating, with Ganganagar reporting an AQI of 240, categorizing as “poor.” In Baghpat, the AQI was 162, reflecting “moderate” air quality.
Conditions in Other Districts
Hapur recorded an AQI of 214, with the air quality rated as “poor.” Kanpur reported an AQI of 189, falling under the “moderate” category. Lucknow’s Lal Bagh area had an AQI of 134, indicating “moderate” air quality.
The situation in these areas is a growing concern, especially as colder weather sets in, which may further deteriorate air quality and pose health risks to the local population. Authorities are closely monitoring the situation and seeking measures to mitigate pollution levels.
