Ghaziabad News: There will soon be more facilities available to commuters utilising Ghaziabad‘s three Rapid Rail Transit System (RRTS) stations: Sahibabad, Guldhar, and Duhai. The National Capital Region Transport Corporation (NCRTC) is getting ready to open these stations with dining options, retail establishments, and banking facilities. The purpose of this action is to improve the commuting experience and accommodate the projected increase in passengers.
New Commercial Activities at RRTS Stations
The NCRTC has requested private companies to submit bids for commercial spaces for Sahibabad, Guldhar and Duhai stations in order to meet the anticipated increase in passengers. In order to give commuters additional convenience and alternatives, these stations will have dining establishments, retail outlets, and banking services.
“We anticipate a rise in ridership in the future and have invited bids for commercial activities at the three stations,” an NCRTC official stated. There will soon be financial services, retail centres, and restaurants accessible.”
Enhancing RRTS Commuters Experience
The 82-kilometer RRTS project would link Delhi, Ghaziabad, and Meerut with high-speed trains that can reach speeds of 180 km/h. At the moment, stations at Sahibabad, Ghaziabad, Guldhar, Duhai, Duhai Depot, Muradnagar, Modinagar (south), and Modinagar (north) are part of an operating 34-kilometer stretch in Ghaziabad. The network will shortly be expanded by an additional 8 km, which will include the Meerut (south) station.
When the 82-kilometer line is finished by June 2025, according to officials, the RRTS will carry about 800,000 people per day.
Expanding Operational Hours
Beginning on May 20, the NCRTC is extending train running hours by two hours in order to better serve passengers. The purpose of this addition is to enhance passenger capacity and facilitate travel for those departing later in the evening.
Milestone Achieved by RRTS
Significant milestones have lately been accomplished by the RRTS, including surpassing one million riders in total last week. Prime Minister Narendra Modi inaugurated a 17-kilometer stretch in October 2023, and in March 2024, a second 17-kilometer stretch went into service.
Commercial Space Availability
The commercial spaces allotted to the stations at Sahibabad, Guldhar, and Duhai are 164 square metres, 145 square metres, and 275 square metres, respectively. While Guldhar and Duhai stations are located along Delhi Meerut Road, Sahibabad station is well positioned near to the Sahibabad Site IV industrial complex and Vasundhara.
The NCRTC improved the overall passenger experience by designing these stations with larger platforms, lots of natural light, and ventilation. Inspired by peacock feathers, the stations’ outer façade are decorated in tones of blue and beige, combining aesthetic appeal with practicality.
RRTS Future Prospects
In the future, commercial operations will also spread to more RRTS stations. The NCRTC anticipates increased ridership and ongoing development of commuter facilities with the construction of the Meerut (south) station and the eventual introduction of the Delhi extension, which comprises Sarai Kale Khan, New Ashok Nagar and Anand Vihar stations.
