Ghaziabad News: Trial Run of Namo Bharat Regional Rapid Train Set for Late 2024

Ghaziabad News: The much-anticipated trial run of the regional rapid train, ‘Namo Bharat,’ is slated to commence by the last quarter of this year on the Sahibabad to Anand Vihar and New Ashok Nagar stretch. The trial runs for other Delhi stations will follow later.

India’s First Regional Rail Service

Stretching over 82.15 kilometers from Sarai Kale Khan in Delhi to Modipuram in Meerut, Uttar Pradesh, the Delhi-Ghaziabad-Meerut corridor marks India’s first regional rail service. The network, constructed by the National Capital Region Transport Corporation (NCRTC), will feature 25 stations and two depots, linking key urban centers upon its expected completion by 2025.

High Capacity and Speed

The Namo Bharat service is designed to handle approximately 800,000 passengers daily, akin to Hamburg’s S-Bahn. With a travel speed of 160 km/h, it will be the fastest regional rail system in India. Currently, an operational 34-kilometer section between Sahibabad and Modinagar North includes eight stations. An additional 8-kilometer stretch from Modinagar North to Meerut South awaits approval from the Commissioner of Metro Railway Safety (CMRS) and will become operational soon.

Construction Progress

According to Puneet Vats, chief public relations officer of the NCRTC, construction at both Anand Vihar and New Ashok Nagar is at an advanced stage. At New Ashok Nagar, track-laying on the downline is complete, with the upline expected to be finished within a month.

Delhi Stations and Completion Timeline

The Delhi segment of the corridor will include four stations: Anand Vihar, New Ashok Nagar, Sarai Kale Khan, and Jangpura. While construction at Sarai Kale Khan is progressing well, the Jangpura RRTS station, which will feature a stabling yard for train maintenance, an operational control center, office complexes, and residential towers, will take more time to complete.

Project Cost and Full Operation

The Delhi segment is expected to be operational by early 2025, with the entire 82-kilometer corridor slated for full operation by June 2025. The project is being developed at a cost of Rs 30,274 crore, promising to significantly enhance regional connectivity and ease commuting challenges in the National Capital Region.
