A massive fire broke out at AR Tower next to Hamraj Market, Bansmandi in Kanpur. The fire took a formidable form in the late night accident. Several fire tenders are engaged in controlling the fire on the spot. The tower has been burning for about six hours.
Five complexes have been destroyed by fire in this accident. According to an estimate, more than 10 billion damage has been done. This is the biggest readymade wholesale market in UP.
Efforts to extinguish the fire are still going on by the fire brigade personnel.
Kanpur commissioner is present on the spot. Help is also being sought from neighboring districts.
According to the police, there is a problem in extinguishing the fire due to wind. Air Force, Army, COD, Ordinance vehicles have also reached the spot. The fire is likely to be brought under control soon.
Fire caused by short circuit
There are more than two dozen readymade garments wholesale shops in AR Tower. It is being told that the fire started due to a short circuit, which gradually spread to the entire building. Police say that a detailed investigation will be conducted into the cause of the fire.
Fire brigade called from many districts
More than 50 fire brigade vehicles from several districts including Kanpur, Unnao and Lucknow are engaged in extinguishing the fire. DM and Police Commissioner have contacted army officers. Army vehicles have also reached the spot to douse the fire.
Kanpur Police Commissioner BP Jogdand, Joint Police Commissioner Anand Prakash Tiwari and DM are present on the spot. Officers and vehicles of Air Force, Army, COD have also reached the spot.
