Lucknow: At the King George’s Medical University (KGMU) in Lucknow, a four-month-old baby with congenital diaphragmatic hernia (CDH), a rare congenital ailment, successfully underwent a difficult procedure.
The infant, a native of Rae Bareli, underwent surgery on November 10 and was discharged on November 13.

On November 9, he was brought to the paediatric division of KGMU due to breathing issues.
The boy’s left side of the diaphragm was not adequately developed, according to the inspection. As a result, the boy’s small gut constricted his lungs, making breathing challenging.
Dr J.D. Rawat from the paediatric department said, “A microscope was put in his chest to perform reconstruction of diaphragm.”
The child is stable and recovering well
According to him, one in 10,000 to 15,000 live births result in such unusual congenital defects, and administering anaesthesia was difficult because the patient’s lungs were already damaged.
He further said, “We were not sure whether he will be able to come out of unconsciousness and will be stable after the surgery. However, the surgery was successful, and the child is stable and recovering well.”
