Lucknow News : Development Authority Takes Action Against Over 1,320 Illegal Structures, Provides Alternate Housing for Affected Families

Lucknow: In a significant and extensive demolition drive, the Lucknow Development Authority (LDA) and Municipal Corporation have successfully cleared all illegal encroachments in Akbar Nagar. The operation, which commenced in December of last year, culminated on June 18th with the demolition of over 1,320 illegal buildings, including residential properties, commercial structures, and religious sites.

Massive Demolition Drive in Akbar Nagar Clears Illegal Encroachments

The demolition drive saw the removal of 1,169 unlawful residential properties and over 100 commercial structures, utilizing heavy machinery, including bulldozers. The final phase of the drive, which began on June 10th, faced a brief delay due to Bakrid but was completed by Tuesday. During this phase, around 100 buildings were demolished, and the task of clearing the rubble is already underway.

Among the structures demolished were an illegally erected mosque and madrasa in Akbar Nagar. Visuals from the late-night operation show a four-storey mosque being razed to the ground. This action followed previous demolitions, including those of a temple, highlighting the drive’s non-discriminatory approach to illegal encroachments.

The demolition drive aimed to remove illegal encroachments on 24.5 acres of land, which had been occupied for years by families who settled on the banks of the Kukrail River. These encroachments had been overlooked by successive governments, leading to the constriction of the crucial water body.

To mitigate the impact on displaced families, the LDA has provided alternate housing through the PM Awas Yojna. Nearly 1,800 affected families have been relocated to other parts of the city, ensuring they have accommodation after losing their homes.

Authorities emphasized that all demolished properties were illegal constructions. The LDA’s proactive measures are part of a broader effort to restore and preserve crucial land and water resources in the area.

The successful completion of the demolition drive marks a significant step towards urban development and law enforcement in Lucknow, ensuring that encroachments do not hinder the city’s growth and sustainability.
