Lucknow News: In preparation for the Mahakumbh 2025 event, the government is taking significant steps to ensure a sustainable and eco-friendly approach. The Uttar Pradesh State Road Transport Corporation (UPSRTC) will introduce 500 electric buses for the event.
100 electric buses in initial phase:
In the initial phase, 100 electric buses will be purchased at a cost of approximately Rs 1.5 crore each, with an additional 250 electric buses hired from private firms. These buses will feature tracking devices and panic buttons for passenger safety, and their fares will be on par with existing UPSRTC buses.
Additionally, the Delhi government is pushing for a complete ban on firecrackers and diesel buses in the National Capital Region (NCR). Delhi has proposed various measures during discussions with environment ministers from neighboring states, emphasizing the need for pollution reduction through measures like cleaner fuels and better infrastructure.
Set to improve last-mile connectivity
Furthermore, a new initiative is set to improve last-mile connectivity in Greater Noida, Noida, and YEIDA. The Noida Authority, UPSRTC, and NMRC plan to launch 100 e-buses under the PM E-bus Sewa scheme. These buses will serve various sectors, including the upcoming airport, from 6.30 am to 11 pm, benefiting commuters, office-goers, and students.
The Noida Authority will provide infrastructure support, maintenance, and e-charging stations. This move aims to enhance public transport accessibility and affordability in the region.
