The entire episode occurred during the marriage ceremony of Sonu Singh Jatav, a constable in Meerut, and a local girl from Nigohan. The groom allegedly attacked Pandit Vivek Shukla at a classic restaurant where the wedding was taking place.

Amidst the wedding turmoil, Sonu Jatav reportedly objected to the delay, leading to a violent altercation with Pandit Vivek. The priest suffered severe injuries, including a head injury. Sachin Shukla, the brother of the assaulted priest, intervened to mediate but was also allegedly beaten by Sonu. In response, Sonu warned Sachin of legal consequences if he pursued harassment charges.
