Mainpuri By-Election: Dimple Yadav, the leader of the Samajwadi Party, is all set to submit her nomination on Monday to contest the election in Uttar Pradesh’s Mainpuri Lok Sabha district.
Her election is viewed as an attempt by the SP to keep up the legacy of her father-in-law Mulayam Singh Yadav on the seat, which has been a fortress for the party since 1996. Her selection is also viewed as an effort to bring party cadres together before the byelection.

Mulayam Singh Yadav’s demise made Mainpuri seat vacant
Following the passing of Samajwadi Party founder Mulayam Singh Yadav on October 10, the seat in Mainpuri, which is believed to be a stronghold for the party, became vacant. Several party workers and leaders visited Akhilesh Yadav’s Safai house in Uttar Pradesh prior to her filing the nominations.
Alok Shakya, the SP district president for Mainpuri, announced on Sunday that SP leader Akhilesh Yadav, party elder Ram Gopal, and other leaders including Dharmendra Yadav and Tej Pratap Yadav will be present when Dimple Yadav files her nomination.
The Yadav family, according to Mr. Shakya, would first visit the Mainpuri party office before travelling to the Collectorate office to be nominated. The byelection will be held on December 5 and the results will be announced on December 8 with that of the Assembly elections in Gujarat and Himachal Pradesh.
Dimple had lost election in 2019
The deadline for submissions is November 17, and nominations will be scrutinised on November 18. Candidates have till November 21 to withdraw their nomination. Dimple Yadav had lost the Lok Sabha elections in 2019 from Kannauj against BJP candidate Subrat Pathak. Mulayam Singh Yadav, the founder of the SP, defeated Prem Singh Shakya, the BJP candidate, with a margin of more than 94,000 votes in 2019 from Mainpuri.
In the 12.13 lakh voters in the Mainpuri Lok Sabha seat, 35% are Yadavs, with the remaining electors being Shakyas, Thakurs, Brahmins, Scheduled Castes, and Muslims.
