Meerut News: A fraudulent scam involving the sale of counterfeit mark sheets, purportedly from Chaudhary Charan Singh University, has come to light in West Bengal. Scam artists are deceiving students by making bogus documents using domain names resembling the university’s official site.
FIR filed against the network
An individual named Sanjay Kumar from Lucknow alerted the university via email regarding the fraudulent domain and website under the CCSU name, providing the names and contact numbers of the culprits. After the incident came to light, the university filed a formal complaint with the local cybercrime police station. The individuals involved in this fraudulent activity have previously been arrested for distributing counterfeit mark sheets in several states, including Gujarat.
As per the filed complaint, the culprits took social media platforms as their primary tool for selling counterfeit mark sheets under the university’s name. They established several groups on Facebook and WhatsApp solely for promoting CCSU mark sheets. The fraudulent domain is http://ccsuresults.com/[1], with the reported IP address, 135.181.47.25, registered under Hotzner Online GmbH. The fraudsters employed a cunning tactic by incorporating their fake URL alongside the legitimate university URL.
The firm responsible for managing the admission process alleged, in their investigative report, that this data leakage had occurred through the university’s website, raising concerns about its security. Notably, some years ago, a private company associated with the university’s results had similarly mishandled data, prompting concerns that this data might have fallen into the hands of cybercriminals.
Which website to use?
The university emphasises that students should solely rely on the official website, https://www.ccsuniversity.ac.in, for obtaining information. All results and other official procedures can be accessed through the links provided on this website. It’s important to note that the university does not engage in online verification of mark sheets.
Furthermore, the university has no study centers or branches in other states. As a precautionary measure, the university advises students to verify contact details using the numbers listed on the official website before initiating any admission or mark sheet-related processes. It’s essential to be cautious, as the fake university URL lacks the “S” in “https,” indicating a potential security risk.
