It is said that ‘the destination is reached only by those who have life in their dreams’. Priyanka Sharma of Uttar Pradesh has shown this to be true. Priyanka has become the first female bus driver of UP Roadways after overcoming all the struggles. Priyanka is also one of the 26 women drivers appointed by the Uttar Pradesh State Road Transport (UPSRTC). Priyanka’s husband died early due to drinking alcohol. After this, the responsibility of raising two children fell on her.
Talking to ANI she said that after the death of my husband, the entire responsibility of raising my children was on me. I shifted to Delhi for better opportunities. Initially I got a job as a helper in a factory. But later I took admission in driving course. After doing driving course, I went to Mumbai. After this she traveled to many states along with Bengal and Assam.
She thanked Prime Minister Narendra Modi and Uttar Pradesh Chief Minister Yogi Adityanath for giving women drivers an opportunity to stand on their own feet. He said that in the year 2020, Yogi ji and Modi ji created job vacancies for women drivers. I also filled the form. I passed the training in May and got posting in September. Although our salary is less, but we are getting good support from the government.
Priyanka’s inspirational journey
It is known that Priyanka is a resident of Hardori village of Banka district of Bihar. She was married to a man named Rajeev in the year 2002. She has two sons. After doing a driving course, she first decided to drive a truck. At first she started working as a helper, but later she started driving a truck. However, Priyanka’s parents and brothers did not like her driving the truck. Because of this, they distanced them from Priyanka. Later she decided to drive the bus. And now she has become the first woman bus driver in UPSRTC.
