Mukhya Mantri Bal Seva Yojana: Uttar Pradesh chief minister Yogi Adityanath made the remarks at a programme at his official residence where he handed certificates and books to children rescued from begging as part of the Smile Mission and “Mukhya Mantri Bal Seva Yojana”.
He expressed his satisfaction over the 102 kids who had been saved from poverty in Lucknow. He claimed that these kids had the spirit and excitement to accomplish great things in life. By joining the “Smile project” and Mukhyamantri Bal Seva Yojana, he claimed, they are making progress.
We shall be able to rid Lucknow of beggarliness if merit is the only factor, he continued. Begging was a part of Indian tradition in the past, according to Yogi Adityanath.
“Through this, a ‘sannyasi’ (hermit) could understand the philosophy of society by abandoning his ego…but today, it is different, begging is harmful for children’s future,” he said.
“The children who have the opportunity to go to school and take the benefit of the government schemes are forcibly involved in begging by gangs. The government has taken strict action against many such gangs from time to time. Smile project is being run to expose the gangs that take up begging as a profession and (the project aims) to rehabilitate the affected families,” he said.
Government improving future of children
“Our government is improving the future of these children by connecting them with voluntary organisations. Since 2017, the Basic Education Council has been providing dresses, bags, books, sweaters, shoes, and socks to all children so that even the most impoverished among them can learn and make a positive contribution to society. Today, 1.91 crore children in the state benefit from this facility,” he said.
“Youths, women and disabled people involved in begging should be rehabilitated and they should be empowered through government schemes,” he said.
Such people, he continued, can easily join the ranks of law-abiding citizens with a little effort. The chief minister added that homeless persons should have access to overnight shelters, “A BC (banking correspondent) Sakhi of Sultanpur district has increased her turnover so much that she is earning ₹1.20-1.30 lakh each month.”
He asserted that the answer to issues is hard labour, not begging.
Atal residential school
Orphans of workers who have registered with the government will be enrolled in Atal residential schools and get free residential education from class 1 to class 12, the minister stated.
According to him, these schools are being established by the state government in each division of Uttar Pradesh and would follow the CBSE curriculum.
According to him, the state government will eventually open one Atal residential school in every district and one in every development block.
According to him, the “Uttar Pradesh Chief Minister Child Assistance Scheme” was responsible for the children who were left orphaned during the COVID outbreak and were unable to attend school. ‘Uttar Pradesh Mukhyamantri Bal Seva Yojana’ was established by the state government for the benefit of children whose parents passed away from illnesses other than Covid, he continued.
Minister of State for Basic Education (independent charge) Sandeep Singh, Lucknow Mayor Sushma Kharakwal, and Women Welfare, Child Development, and Nutrition Minister Baby Rani Maurya all spoke at the event.
