Noida hospital introduces first ever dedicated inquiry section for transgenders

A specialized registration and pharmacy service has been established to cater specifically to transgender patients at the district hospital. This initiative involves a separate registration counter that collects information about transgender patients, while a dedicated pharmacy counter dispenses medications prescribed by doctors.

Dr. Renu Aggarwal, the Chief Medical Superintendent of the hospital, explained that the motivation behind this effort stemmed from complaints received from members of the transgender community. These individuals expressed concerns regarding discrimination and ill-treatment during the registration process at the Outpatient Department (OPD) of the hospital.

In response to these grievances, a distinct registration and pharmacy counter exclusively for transgender individuals was introduced under Dr. Aggarwal’s direction. She expressed optimism that this new approach would lead to an increase in the number of transgender patients seeking care at the Noida district hospital, addressing the current issue of low registration from this community at the OPD.

Reena, who accompanied her mother for medical treatment, shared her thoughts on the initiative, stating, “I’ve witnessed the unjust treatment and bias that transgenders often face. This specialized counter will undoubtedly provide them with much-needed support.”
