In Gautam Buddha Nagar, the Transport Department has suspended the driving licenses of 280 individuals, with 80 percent facing cancellation primarily for driving at high speeds. This punitive measure, lasting from 45 to 90 days, was initiated in response to speeding violations detected on the Greater Noida-Noida Expressway and Yamuna Expressway through the use of interceptors.
Reasons for License Suspension
The Transport Department highlighted that driving beyond the prescribed speed limits on these expressways poses significant risks to the lives of the drivers and others on the road. Additionally, the enforcement action extended to offenses such as driving in the wrong direction, using a mobile phone while driving, driving under the influence of alcohol, and violating red light signals. The suspended licenses range from 15 to 90 days.
Strict Monitoring Measures
To curb speeding violations, daily monitoring using interceptors has been implemented on the Noida-Greater Noida Expressway and Yamuna Expressway. The recent addition of a district-specific interceptor has bolstered enforcement efforts. Prior to this, Noida Traffic Police relied on cameras for monitoring and issuing challans to speeding vehicles.
Zero Tolerance for Violations During Suspension Period
ARTO Enforcement Dr. Udit Narayan Pandey emphasized that challans are regularly issued for high-speed violations through interceptors. During the suspension period, any individual found driving will face further consequences, potentially leading to a complete revocation of driving rights. This strict approach aims to enhance road safety and deter reckless driving behavior in the region.
