Noida News: Connecting International Airport with Rail Lines; Uttar Pradesh Chief Secretary’s Proposal

UP News, Noida News

Noida News: Uttar Pradesh Chief Secretary Durga Shankar Mishra has proposed connecting the upcoming Noida International Airport with the Delhi-Howrah and Delhi-Mumbai railway lines. A major railway junction will be established at the Noida International Airport as part of this project. The responsibility for preparing the Detailed Project Report (DPR) for this initiative has been assigned to the North Central Railway.

In a meeting with representatives from all three authorities, Durga Shankar Mishra discussed the connectivity plans through an online session. The Yamuna Authority had initially submitted a proposal to the Railway Ministry to link the Noida Airport with rail connectivity.

The Report to be Ready in the Next Two Months

The meeting concluded with consensus on connecting the airport with both the Delhi-Howrah and Delhi-Mumbai railway lines. Two routes will be made, and a significant railway station will be developed in Jewar. The Detailed Project Report for this venture will be prepared by the North Central Railway, with expectations of completion within the next two months.

Current Lack of Railway Connectivity

Presently, the Noida International Airport lacks railway connectivity. The construction of a road link, approximately 30 kilometers, is underway from the Delhi-Mumbai Expressway. Besides passenger facilities, the airport is also being developed as a cargo hub, surrounded by various industrial sectors.

Railway Lines Crossing Noida Airport

The Eastern Freight Corridor, running from Kolkata to Amritsar, passes through the eastern region of the Noida International Airport. The Delhi-Mumbai railway line passes to the west of the airport, near the Palwal station in Haryana. Proposed railway stations near the airport aim to enhance passenger and cargo services, connecting to the major rail networks of Delhi-Howrah and Delhi-Mumbai.

Connecting Stations for Seamless Travel

To connect the airport to the Delhi-Mumbai railway line, a new line will be laid from Palwal to the airport via Khurja. This corridor will cover a distance of approximately 55 kilometers. For connecting the airport to the Delhi-Howrah railway line, a line will be laid from Chola railway station to the airport. This corridor will be around 20 kilometers long. With these developments, the Noida International Airport will be seamlessly connected to the Delhi-Howrah railway line at Chola and Khurja railway stations.
