Noida News: In an incident that occurred on the night of Sunday and Monday, a man allegedly connected to the snatching incident in Ghaziabad, which tragically resulted in the death of a 19-year-old student on Sunday night, was killed in a police encounter near the Upper Ganga Canal in Masuri. The deceased individual has been identified as Jitendra Kumar, who was wanted in connection with the robbery involving the student, Kirti Singh.
Kirti Singh, a first-year engineering student from Hapur, lost her life due to head injuries sustained when she fell from a moving auto while resisting a snatching attempt by two motorcycle-borne robbers on National Highway 9 (NH-9) on the preceding Friday.
The suspect, Jitendra Kumar, hailing from Misalgarhi near Ghaziabad, was killed during the encounter with police. The incident occurred when a police team confronted two men on motorcycles during the early hours of October 30. Despite police orders to stop, the suspects opened fire, injuring a police sub-inspector. In response, the police returned fire, resulting in Jitendra Kumar sustaining a bullet injury. He later succumbed to his injuries.
Balbir confessed to his and Jitendra’s involvement in robbery
Jitendra’s accomplice, Balbir Kumar, was apprehended during a crackdown on Saturday night in Sikrod, where he suffered a bullet injury to his leg. During questioning, Balbir confessed to his and Jitendra’s involvement in the robbery with the student. The police also recovered Kirti’s stolen mobile phone from Balbir.
Kirti had taken an auto outside her college with her friend, Diksha Jindal, on the fateful Friday afternoon. When the auto reached a flyover on NH-9 near Masuri, two men on a motorcycle attempted to snatch Kirti’s phone, leading to her falling from the moving auto while resisting the robbers. She was rushed to the hospital with severe head injuries but sadly passed away during treatment on Sunday night.
Family of deceased girl filed FIR
Shortly after the incident, the police engaged several suspects on motorcycles near the Upper Ganga Canal in Masuri. The family of the deceased girl filed a first information report (FIR) at the Masuri police station.
The Deputy Commissioner of Police (DCP) revealed that Jitendra had a criminal record with 12 cases against him, including at least six for robbery, and he had also faced charges under the Gangsters Act in 2020.
The Station House Officer (SHO) of the Masuri police station was suspended due to lax supervision following the highway robbery incident.
