Prayagraj: The Uttar Pradesh police on Wednesday attached illegally obtained property worth over Rs 123 crore in the Jhunsi neighbourhood of Prayagraj as part of the largest-ever crackdown against mafia don Atiq Ahmed. According to the Gangster Act, Atiq Ahmed was the target of the activity.
Sanjay Kumar Khatri, the deputy mayor of Prayagraj, had earlier directed representatives of the Revenue Department to launch an investigation into the ill-gotten riches that mafia don Atiq Ahmed had collected through illicit means. Atiq Ahmed, a former don who is now a politician, had illegal property that was attached after the submission of the investigation report conclusions.
Atiq Ahmed bought land in the Prayagraj neighbourhoods of Kasari Masari and Phulpur for more than Rs 6.5 crore and Rs 123 crore, respectively, using money obtained from illicit activity. Officers from Dhumanganj and other police stations were included in the raiding team per the SSP’s directions.

The police seized two land assets owned by Atiq Ahmed that measured 1.8260 and 1.1300 hectares and were worth at over Rs 76 crore and Rs 47 crore, respectively, at a Havelia in the Jhunsi neighbourhood of Prayagraj. Additionally, the Kasari Masari area saw the seizure of Atiq’s third illegal asset. According to sources, this was also the 0.13 hectare land block with a market value of more than Rs 6 crore.

Atiq Ahmed had bought 13 bighas of land plots worth over Rs 123 crore, according to City SP Santosh Kumar Meena in a press conference. On the banks of the Ganges, agricultural land parcels were bought.
