Sawan 2023: Devotees offered prayers at Kashi Vishwanath Temple on the second day of the month of ‘Sawan’ on July 17. They performed proper rituals.
According to a Shiv Bhakt who was there among the devotees gathered for Baba Vishwanath’s darshan in Varanasi, Monday is revered as Lord Shiva’s day and receiving Baba’s darshan on this day is highly auspicious. After taking a bath in the Ganga River, they carry its water to Baba Vishwanath.
He added that devotees perform religious ceremonies during the month of Shravan, leading to the crowds to rise significantly.
The scriptures state that chanting, bathing, donating, and worshipping are all especially important on the day of Somvati Amavasya. It is believed that taking a bath in one of the sacred rivers and giving on this day will increase luck. Married women fast on this day for long life of their husbands. On Somvati Amavasya, offerings are also made to the ancestors.
