Two men wielding guns fired indiscriminate fire at two murder suspects brought before the court for the hearing on Tuesday, inciting panic inside the Jaunpur court in Uttar Pradesh.
The two assailants shot at Surya Prakash and Mithilesh Giri while they were being transported to the Diwani court for their trial in the death of wrestler Badal Yadav in Dharmapur on May 6.
The shooters were apprehended and turned over to the police shortly after the incident by the local solicitors.
Both murder suspects were taken to a district hospital and later sent to Varasani because of their serious conditions.
Police are questioning the shooters in the meanwhile but have not yet released their identities.
The scenario is very similar to the recent murders of gangster-turned-politician Atiq Ahmed and his brother Ashraf while they were in police custody last month for a medical examination.
