Following cataract surgery on November 2 at a private hospital, six people of a village in the Kanpur region of Uttar Pradesh reportedly lost eyesight in one eye.
The district administration on Wednesday evening registered a FIR against Dr. Neeraj Gupta, an eye surgeon employed by a private hospital who is accused of performing the cataract surgery, and a local resident named Durgesh Shukla following the completion of a preliminary investigation by a three-member panel. The government suspended the licence of Aradhya Eye Hospital, where the procedure was carried out after a “free camp.”
Three people investigation group
Six people reported to us that they lost their vision following cataract surgery. I established a three-people investigation group, which included specialists from the eye department, because the situation sounded serious. According to Kanpur Chief Medical Officer Dr. Alok Ranjan, we also revoked the hospital’s licence.
“There was post-operation negligence, according to the committee’s preliminary investigation findings. The term “government camp” was also misappropriated by a local. Some people gave money to this person as well, and the nursing home claimed that they were unable to hold the camp since no official permission had been granted, according to Dr. Ranjan.
