Yamuna Expressway

Yamuna Expressway Industrial Development Authority (YEIDA) has decided to lower the speed limit on the Yamuna Expressway. Starting from December 15, the new speed limit will be 75 kmph, a reduction of 25 kmph from the usual 100 kmph. The decision aims to prevent accidents, especially in anticipated heavy fog. The speed limit adjustment is set to be in effect for at least two months.

Safety Measures and Fog Precautions

To mitigate the potential risks associated with reduced visibility during winter, YEIDA is taking proactive measures. The decision to lower the speed limit is part of a strategy to ensure safer driving conditions on the 165-km long expressway. Previous incidents of accidents and pile-ups have prompted this preemptive action.

Authorities Engage Jaypee Infratech for Safety Enhancements

YEIDA has called upon Jaypee Infratech to address safety concerns and contribute to improving overall safety on the expressway. This includes the installation of warning signs to alert commuters about traffic rules and weather conditions. CEO of YEIDA, Arun Veer Singh, emphasized the importance of these measures in the interest of public safety.

Educational Initiatives for Commuters

In addition to physical measures, YEIDA is implementing educational initiatives. Jaypee Infratech has been urged to distribute pamphlets at toll plazas, providing commuters with essential information about rules, safety tips, and weather conditions. The aim is to create awareness and promote adherence to safety guidelines.

Differing Speed Limits for Vehicle Categories

The new speed limit of 75 kmph applies to light motor vehicles like two-wheelers and cars. However, heavy vehicles such as trucks and buses will have a reduced speed limit of 60 kmph. These adjusted speed limits are expected to remain in force until February 15, 2024. Speed violations will incur fines during this period, as part of the authorities’ commitment to enforcing safety regulations on the Yamuna Expressway.
