UP Digital Media Policy 2024

UP Digital Media Policy 2024: During a cabinet meeting on Tuesday, the Uttar Pradesh government approved the UP Digital Media Policy 2024, marking a significant step towards expanding the state’s digital outreach. The government will use this new policy to advertise its schemes and achievements on Facebook, Instagram, YouTube and X, among other online media platforms. Through the promise of significant payment for highlighting the state’s accomplishments, this project seeks to attract digital influencers and content producers.

Digital Content Creators to Earn Up to Rs 8 Lakhs

A structured payment system has been implemented by the government, taking into consideration the popularity of accounts on various platforms. Monthly payments will now be made to influencers and account holders based on the size of their audience. These are the specifics:

With four distinct payment tiers, this model recognises and rewards digital influencers for their contributions to the advancement of government programs. These influencers will be in charge of producing reels, videos, tweets, and blogs to showcase different government initiatives.

‘V-Form’ Agency to Handle Promotions

A digital agency called ‘V-Form’ has been employed by the government, according to a statement released by Sanjay Prasad, Secretary of the Information Department. In order to ensure that material is efficiently distributed across all online platforms, this organisation will oversee all digital promotions for the government of Uttar Pradesh. Featuring the accomplishments of the government, V-Form will manage reels, posts, tweets and videos.

Strict Consequences for Anti-National and Defamatory Content

Strict guidelines are also introduced by the UP Digital Media Policy 2024 to stop the improper usage of digital media. These days, posting anti-national content is regarded as a serious crime that carries a three- to life-long jail term. With the addition of harsher penalties than those previously listed under Sections 66E and 66F of the Information Technology (IT) Act, which address privacy infractions and cyberterrorism, this policy strengthens the legal framework for digital content.

Additionally, posting defamatory or obscene material online can lead to criminal defamation charges, further ensuring that digital platforms are used responsibly and in accordance with the law.
