The Allahabad High Court has taken a very strict stand regarding the statewide strike of the electricity department employees. The High Court, while hearing the already pending petition, has issued a contempt notice to the office bearers of the Vidyut Karmachari Sanyukta Sangharsh Samiti.
The court has also ordered the bailable warrants to be served through CJM Lucknow. On March 20, at 10 am, the court has summoned the office bearer of the Employees’ Union, Shailendra Dubey and others.
Allahabad High Court strict on strike of electricity workers
Actually, there has been a blackout in many areas due to the electricity department employees going on strike regarding their demands. While the power system has collapsed due to the strike, there has also been a crisis of drinking water in many areas.
High Court advocate Vibhu Rai had demanded a hearing in this matter by giving an application in the court regarding the strike of the electricity department employees. While hearing this matter at 2 pm, the court has not accepted the strike of the employees of the Electricity Department as correct. It was said in the application that the strike of the electrical workers is a violation of the order of the High Court. The problems faced by the consumers due to the strike of the electrical workers have also been mentioned in the prayer letter.
In December 2022, the Allahabad High Court had taken suo motu cognizance of the strike of the electricity department personnel. While hearing the matter, the High Court had said in its order dated 6 December 2022 that power supply should not be interrupted. The court had also directed to take strict action if the power supply is disrupted. Justice Ashwani Kumar Mishra and Justice Vinod Diwakar’s division bench heard on the prayer letter of advocate Vibhu Rai.
The state government has also taken a tough stand regarding the strike of the electricity department.
Energy Minister AK Sharma has also talked about imposing ESMA on the strike.
