After the High Court’s order regarding OBC reservation in UP municipal elections, the Yogi government of UP constituted a 5-member commission within 24 hours. This commission will submit a report to the government after conducting a survey on the population of backward classes on the basis of Triple T formula. On the basis of this report, civic body elections will be conducted only after implementing OBC reservation. Lucknow bench of Allahabad High Court has canceled the notification issued regarding OBC reservation in civic body elections and directed to conduct elections without OBC reservation.
It was only after the order of the High Court that Chief Minister Yogi Adityanath made it clear that civic body elections would not be held without OBC reservation. After this, the formation of the commission for OBC reservation was approved by cabinet bicirculation and orders were given to implement the Triple T formula by forming a five-member commission. Retired Justice Ram Avtar Singh has been made the chairman of this commission. Apart from this, former IAS Chob Singh Verma, Mahendra Kumar, former legal advisor Santosh Kumar Vishwakarma and former additional legal advisor Brijesh Kumar Soni have been made members. This commission has been constituted for 6 months with the consent of the Governor, which will conduct the survey as soon as possible and submit the report to the government.

It is worth mentioning that on Tuesday, the Lucknow bench of the Allahabad High Court canceled the notification of reservation, terming the random test regarding OBC reservation as wrong. It was also said that the government should declare the seats with OBC reservation as normal and conduct elections immediately. Or complete the process by January 31 by setting up a backward commission. After this order of the High Court, the opposition parties targeted the government and termed it as anti-backward.
Government can go to Supreme Court against High Court’s decision
In fact, the government can challenge the orders of the High Court to complete the election process by January 31 in the Supreme Court. According to sources, the government is consulting legal experts. The government will request the Supreme Court to extend its deadline for deciding the OBC reservation.
