UP News: 14 Children Hospitalized After Consuming Jalebi at Hardoi School’s Independence Day Celebration

UP News: – A joyous Independence Day celebration at Nera Composite School in the Kachhauna development block of Hardoi district took a concerning turn when 14 children fell ill after consuming jalebi, a popular sweet distributed to students as part of the festivities.

Shortly after the distribution of the sweet treat following the program, children aged between 5 and 10 years old began experiencing severe stomach pains and vomiting. Recognizing the seriousness of the situation, the affected children were immediately rushed to the Community Health Centre in Kachhauna for urgent medical attention.

The incident sparked a significant reaction from local authorities and parents alike. Sub-District Magistrate Dr. Aruniya Shrivastava quickly reached the health center to oversee the situation. SDI Krishna Kumar Tripathi also arrived at the facility two hours later to ensure the children received appropriate care. However, the absence of teachers during the critical period following the incident heightened concerns among parents and local officials about the supervision and safety of the students.

The students who fell ill include Lavkush, a 10-year-old in class 5, Raksha, a 5-year-old in class 1, and others identified as Jitin, Sulochani, Bharti, Rajiv, Sachin, Abhiyan, Mahima, Aarti, Shivanshi, Chandni, Saurabh, and Ranjana.

As parents gathered at the health center anxiously awaiting updates on their children’s condition, there was a palpable sense of worry and frustration. Many parents expressed their concerns over the quality and safety of the food distributed in schools, particularly during special occasions.

“This is a serious matter of food safety and student health,” said Dr. Shrivastava. “We will be conducting a thorough investigation into the cause of this incident and taking the necessary actions to prevent such occurrences in the future.”

Meanwhile, the district education authorities have been instructed to review the procedures for food distribution and ensure strict adherence to safety standards. The incident serves as a stark reminder of the importance of food safety in schools, especially during large-scale events where children are particularly vulnerable.

The health condition of the affected students is being closely monitored, and the school administration has been advised to cooperate fully with the ongoing investigation. The incident has underscored the need for vigilant oversight and precautionary measures to safeguard the well-being of students during school events.
