UP News: An Advanced Traffic Management System (ATMS) is scheduled to be installed on the Bundelkhand Expressway in Uttar Pradesh, which has been in service since PM Narendra Modi inaugurated it in July 2022. With this approach, overspeeding cars will be effectively controlled and traffic monitoring will be improved. The Bundelkhand Expressway is noteworthy for being the first greenfield expressway in the state that runs exclusively on solar energy.
Solar-Powered Traffic Monitoring
The fourth-longest expressway in Uttar Pradesh, spanning 296 km, will be monitored by the ATMS using solar-powered cameras. For the purpose of carrying out this initiative, organisations are invited to submit proposals to the Uttar Pradesh Expressway Industrial Development Authority (UPEIDA). Modern technologies will be used to build a Traffic Management Command Centre as part of the strategy.
Command Centre Features
The Command Centre will feature:
- System controllers
- Graphic displays
- Internet and SMS servers
- Fibre channel hosts
- USB joystick-controlled PTZ cameras
- 360-terabyte server for recordings
- 240-terabyte backup storage
These solar-powered cameras, installed along the highway, can function for up to four days without recharging.
Speed Detection and Surveillance
On both sides of the expressway, UPEIDA will install vehicle speed detection devices and motion detection surveillance cameras to increase safety. When a vehicle exceeds the speed limit, these devices will inform the command centre so that it can track them quickly. In addition, 150 cameras with 90-meter-range speed detection radars will be positioned at 50 different points along the expressway.
Comprehensive Safety Measures
Nearly 900 cameras, an emergency telephone helpline console, an Aadhaar-enabled biometric fingerprint scanner for employees, a surge protection device, a lightning protection unit, an advanced driver advising system, and a GPS tracker are all part of the new ATMS on the Bundelkhand Expressway. For a five-year term, UPEIDA has invited bids from organisations to purchase, install, run, and maintain this equipment.
Expansive and Efficient Infrastructure
An estimated 14,850 crore was spent on building the four-lane Bundelkhand Expressway, which runs from NH-35 at Gonda village in Chitrakoot district to Kudrail village in Etawah district, where it connects to the Agra-Lucknow expressway. This route improves communication and promotes economic growth in the following seven districts: Etawah, Banda, Mahoba, Hamirpur, Jalaun, Auraiya, and Chitrakoot.
