CM Yogi has directed rapid changes in a dozen acts, rules, procedures, and government orders to facilitate the implementation of these new laws. He emphasized the need for proposals to be prepared swiftly and for forensic experts to be appointed as required.
Training for constables, sub-inspectors, inspectors, prosecutors, and jail staff must be completed by June 30. This comprehensive training is essential for the seamless transition to the new legal framework.
In a related development, CM Yogi congratulated Prime Minister Narendra Modi for being elected as the leader of the NDA parliamentary party and the Lok Sabha for the third consecutive time. During the event in New Delhi, PM Modi patted CM Yogi on the back, signaling his confidence in the governance of Uttar Pradesh under Yogi’s leadership.
The new legal framework will replace the Indian Penal Code (IPC) of 1860 with the Bharatiya Nyaya Sanhita of 2023, the Criminal Procedure Code (CrPC) of 1898 with the Bharatiya Nagarik Suraksha Sanhita of 2023, and the Indian Evidence Act of 1872 with the Bharatiya Sakshya Vidheyak of 2023. These laws are expected to bring substantial changes to the Indian criminal justice system, integrating technology in data analytics, evidence collection, e-courts, and document digitization.
The Chief Minister also called for public awareness about these new laws and their significance in promoting justice over punishment, a departure from the colonial-era laws designed to protect and reinforce British rule.
