UP News: Uttar Pradesh Government Approves New 1,600MW Power Plant in Anpara to Strengthen Energy Infrastructure

The Yogi Adityanath-led government in Uttar Pradesh is set to bolster the state’s energy sector with the approval of a 1,600 MW power plant in Anpara. The state-owned UP Rajya Vidyut Utpadan Nigam Limited (UPRVUNL) recently gave the nod to the proposed Anpara E project in the Sonbhadra district. Meja Utpadan Nigam Limited, a joint venture between UPRVUNL and NTPC, will spearhead the project.

Yogi Government Greenlights New 1,600MW Power Plant in Anpara

The estimated cost of the Anpara E project is Rs 18,624 crore, according to UPRVUNL Chairman Ashish Goel. However, the corporation has not provided a specific timeline for the implementation of the project. Anpara-A, B, D units, collectively owned by UPRVUNL, currently have a combined capacity of 2,630 MW. Additionally, the Anpara-C, a 1,200 MW project, is owned by Lanco.

The decision to initiate another power unit was made during a UPRVUNL review meeting, which aimed to assess the status of existing coal-fired thermal power plants in the state. The proposal for the Anpara E project will now be forwarded to the government for final approval.
