UP News: The Uttar Pradesh Government has announced significant changes to the high school board exam curriculum, aligning with the National Education Policy (NEP) 2020. From the academic year 2025-26, students in classes 9 and 10 will take exams in 10 subjects, a notable increase from the current six.
Implementation of the Three-Language Formula
In compliance with NEP 2020, the new curriculum will implement the three-language formula, making Hindi compulsory for all students. Additionally, students will have the option to choose two more languages from a diverse list, including Sanskrit, Gujarati, Urdu, Punjabi, Bengali, Marathi, Assamese, Oriya, Kannada, Kashmiri, Sindhi, Tamil, Telugu, Malayalam, Nepali, Pali, Arabic, Persian, and English.
Stakeholder Feedback Invited
The board has invited suggestions from all stakeholders to facilitate a phased implementation of these changes. Feedback can be submitted to the email address upmspncf2023@gmail.com by June 29.
Compulsory and Elective Subjects
Under the new curriculum, studying Mathematics, Science, and Social Science will be mandatory for all students. Additionally, students will choose one subject from a list that includes home science, anthropology, commerce, NCC, computers, agriculture, or environmental science. For art education, options will include painting, music, singing, or playing an instrument. Physical and health education choices will feature yoga, sports, and physical education, alongside mandatory socially useful productive and social service work. Vocational education will offer 31 subjects, providing students with practical skills and training.
Changes in Assessment and Grading
A written test worth 39 marks will encompass physical, art, and vocational education. The overall grading system will shift from a total of 600 marks to a new total of 1,000 marks, reflecting the broader and more comprehensive curriculum.
These changes aim to enhance the educational experience by providing a more diverse and well-rounded curriculum, preparing students for future challenges and opportunities in line with the objectives of NEP 2020.
