UP News: In anticipation of the upcoming festive season, the Uttar Pradesh government has introduced a special cleanliness campaign titled ‘Swachch Tyohar, Swasth Tyohar’ (Clean Festival, Healthy Festival), with a primary focus on maintaining cleanliness around temples and religious sites.
Minister Emphasizes Clean and Healthy Festivals
Uttar Pradesh’s Urban Development and Energy Minister, AK Sharma, has stressed the importance of celebrating Navratri, Dussehra, and Diwali as ‘Swachch Tyohar, Swasth Tyohar,’ promoting the age-old saying, ‘Cleanliness is next to Godliness.’
Directives to Municipal Officials
Minister Sharma issued directives to municipal officials, urging them to enhance cleanliness in areas surrounding religious sites, temples, monasteries, and Durga Puja pandals. He emphasized the need for strategically placed dustbins, educating the public on their proper use, and expediting streetlight repairs for devotees’ smooth commuting during the festivities.
Ensuring Clean Water Supply and Waste Disposal
Officials were instructed to ensure a clean drinking water supply during the festive season and proper disposal of offerings and waste generated by devotees. The campaign also aims to create awareness among the public about celebrating clean and healthy festivals, encouraging the avoidance of plastic use and advocating for a complete ban on plastic.
Maintaining Clean Worship Environments
Minister Sharma highlighted the importance of providing a clean urban environment for worshippers, where cleanliness is upheld around temples. Morning cleaning routines should be a priority to prevent waste from scattering, and designated bins for proper disposal should be provided. Additionally, disease control measures, including the distribution of medicines, were recommended to safeguard the public from communicable diseases and mosquito-borne illnesses.
Toll-Free Number and ‘Swachh Mandate Survey’
Sharma announced the extensive operation of the toll-free number 1533 and informed officials that the ‘Swachh Mandate Survey’ is underway. He urged officials to collaborate with ward corporators to maintain cleanliness in their respective municipal body areas.
The campaign aims to create a cleaner and healthier environment for worshippers during the festive season.
