In the wake of a recent tumultuous event in neighbouring Uttarakhand, the Uttar Pradesh (UP) Police force has ramped up its vigilance, as announced by Director General of Police (DGP) Prashant Kumar.
Heightened Alertness
DGP Kumar emphasized that the UP Police force is on heightened alertness, spurred by the unsettling events unfolding in Uttarakhand. While affirming that Uttar Pradesh has remained free of any untoward incidents, he underscored the proactive stance adopted by field officers, who are actively engaged in maintaining constant vigilance and fostering open communication with community leaders, especially religious figures, to uphold peace and harmony.

The incident in Uttarakhand’s Banbhoolpura area resulted in six fatalities and over 60 injuries. The outbreak of violence stemmed from a mob’s reaction to the demolition of an illegally constructed madrassa.
Strategic Measures in UP
DGP Kumar outlined several strategic measures implemented across Uttar Pradesh in response to the Uttarakhand incident. In Bareilly, police swiftly intervened to defuse a minor altercation between two groups, averting potential escalation. Moreover, heightened security measures, particularly around Varanasi’s Gyanvapi mosque, have been enforced. Additionally, police chiefs in regions bordering Uttarakhand have been instructed to conduct thorough patrols and visit sensitive areas, amplifying the presence of UP-112 personnel.
Ensuring Peaceful Gatherings
Despite the tense atmosphere, Friday prayers concluded smoothly, thanks to the diligent efforts of law enforcement. Furthermore, the handling of farmers’ protests in Gautam Buddh Nagar district exemplified the police force’s commitment to managing potentially contentious situations with patience and diplomacy.
Continuous Surveillance
Emphasizing the importance of continuous vigilance, DGP Kumar affirmed that the UP Police are employing virtual surveillance methods round-the-clock to monitor and respond swiftly to any emerging threats or incidents.
