UP Weather Update: Uttar Pradesh has experienced much-needed relief from the intense heat as thunderstorms and rain brought cooler temperatures to the region. On Thursday, daytime temperatures in most areas dropped below 40 degrees Celsius, with nighttime temperatures falling below 30 degrees. The Meteorological Department has announced that the monsoon has arrived in Bihar and is expected to reach Uttar Pradesh in the next two to three days if conditions remain favorable. The capital, Lucknow, and surrounding areas are likely to see significant rainfall on June 23-24.
Relief from Sweltering Heat in Uttar Pradesh as Storms and Rain Bring Down Temperatures
According to the Meteorological Department, over 25 districts in the state experienced strong winds and substantial rainfall from Wednesday night to Thursday. The average rainfall was recorded at 4.5 mm. Compared to previous years, this June has seen 78% less rainfall in the state. Meteorologist Atul Kumar Singh stated that the eastern branch of the monsoon had been stalled at Islampur in West Bengal since May 31 but became active again on Thursday after a 20-day hiatus.
The monsoon’s eastern branch has advanced through parts of Bihar, with its northern edge reaching from Bhagalpur to Raxaul. Conditions are now favorable for the monsoon to progress into eastern Uttar Pradesh within the next two to three days, leading to heavy rainfall in the region starting June 23. On June 24, heavy rain is expected in northeastern Tarai and Purvanchal districts, while western Uttar Pradesh is likely to see increased rainfall from June 25.
Heatwave conditions have subsided in eastern Uttar Pradesh, although some areas in western Uttar Pradesh, including Mathura, Hathras, Agra, Firozabad, Mainpuri, and Etawah, may still experience heatwave effects.
