In preparation for Christmas and New Year’s celebrations, the Uttar Pradesh government has granted an extension to liquor sale timings by one hour. According to a notification issued by the Excise Department on Saturday, liquor shops across the state will be allowed to remain open until 11 p.m. on both Christmas Eve (December 24) and New Year’s Eve (December 31).
Key Points:
- Extended Sale Hours: Liquor sale timings have been extended from the usual 10 p.m. closing time to 11 p.m. on December 24 and December 31.
- Festive Occasions: The decision to extend liquor sale hours is specifically for the occasions of Christmas and New Year’s Eve.
- Liquor Lobby’s Push: There were earlier efforts by the liquor lobby to extend the regular sale time from 10 a.m. to 10 p.m. until 11 p.m. on a regular basis. However, the Excise Minister clarified that any extension would only be applicable on defined occasions.
The move aims to accommodate the festive spirit during Christmas and New Year celebrations, allowing residents to purchase liquor until 11 p.m. on these special occasions.
