Uttar Pradesh: Laxmi Singh, an IPS officer, has been named the new head of the Noida Police Department by the Uttar Pradesh government, making her the first woman to lead a Police Commissionerate in the state.
On Wednesday, Lakshmi, the officer from the 2000 batch who took Alok Singh’s post in Gautam Buddh Nagar is anticipated to take over.
A list of 16 Indian Police Service (IPS) officers in the state who will be transferred and posted was released by the UP government late on Monday night, including those for the new commissionrates of Varanasi, Agra, and Prayagraj.
The state currently has 7 police commissionerates, a political system that was first established in 2020. Alok Singh, an IPS officer from the 1995 batch, has been assigned to the DGP office in the state capital of Lucknow as an additional director general of police (ADGP).

Who is Lakshmi?
Lakshmi, (48), has been serving as the Inspector General of Police in Lucknow region
According to official records, she was named the best probationer at the Sardar Vallabhbhai Patel National Police Academy in Hyderabad and retains the distinction of being the first woman to top the IPS tests (33rd overall position).
During her training, she was also given the home minister’s handgun and the prime minister’s silver bation.
She began her career as a senior superintendent of police in 2004 after receiving a B.Tech in mechanical engineering.
She was elevated to the post of deputy IG in 2013 and then to IG in 2018.
From January 1 to March 5, 2018, Laxmi Singh worked as the IG/DIG of the Special Task Force (STF) in Gautam Buddh Nagar. After that, from March 2018 to May 26 of 2020, she served as IG of the police training school in Meerut before being transferred as IG Range Lucknow.

Three new police commissionerates were declared by the state government last week
Three new police commissionerates for the districts of Ghaziabad, Agra, and Prayagraj were declared by the state government last week. This was in addition to the four already in place in Kanpur, Varanasi, Gautam Buddh Nagar (Noida), and Lucknow.
The commissionerates in Varanasi and Kanpur were established in March 2021, while they were established in Lucknow and Gautam Buddh Nagar in January 2020.
The newly appointed police chief in Noida is wed to Rajeshwar Singh, a former ED officer and BJP legislator from Lucknow’s Sarojini Nagar district. Laxmi Singh has also got the Police Medal, the UP DGP’s silver and gold medals in 2020 and 2021, and other honours. She received the UP-Chief Minister’s Excellence in Service Medal the previous year.
