What led to the outbreak of violence?

An argument between a former student leader and the school security guards, who were allegedly refusing to let him enter the campus, allegedly led to the outbreak of violence.

The leader has been a member of a long-running, on-campus protest against a fee increase for a few months. The university’s administration has stated that the increased tuition would not be reversed.

Both parties have made injury claims. According to the police, things are now mostly under control and calmer. Reporters were ordered to sit outside the students’ union office where all complaints would be heard, according to police commissioner Ramit Sharma.

Spokesman for Allahabad Central University informs

According to Jaya Kapoor, a spokesman for Allahabad Central University, some disorderly individuals attempted to break the lock on the university gate and assaulted the security personnel. “After this, the miscreants vandalised and set fire on the premises…due to which an atmosphere of fear and anarchy prevailed on the campus,” according to Ms. Kapoor.

“The miscreants are not students of the university. They set a motorcycle on fire, broke the glasses of two teachers’ cars, set a generator on fire and also torched the university canteen…It is regrettable that the police had to see this entire incident as a mute spectator. The unruly elements also fired shots in the air,” she explained.

The university will remain shut today.
